The freedom to move rule also affects beetles when they re climbing up and down.

If you do this and your opponent moves his beetle on top of yours it may hurt you more than it helped. It may not move around the outside of the hive and may not end its movement on top of the hive. From its position on top of the hive the beetle can move from tile to tile across the top of the hive. If his beetle was on the bottom level next to the queen and it moves on top of your beetle it not only traps your beetle but it opens a space next to his queen.
The bee first double sided gameboard is a habitat. Using your pieces to create no move chains out of your opponent s pieces is half the battle. If it moves again it can do so as any of those three. The only exception to this rule is that if it is moved on top of the hive as a beetle moves it retains the abilities of a beetle until it moves down off of the hive again.
In bee first math kids move their bees by forming simple equations from dice rolls. A beetle attempting to climb up or down the hive can still be blocked by other beetles stacked on top of the hive. You can climb that beetle on top of the opponent s queen and spawn your own pieces around it and then drop the beetle itself down for the game winner. First player moves their beetle on top of their opponents piece.
The rule is if the two stacks of pieces that might block the movement are both taller than both the space the beetle is moving from and the space the beetle is moving to then the beetle is blocked. Unlike any other creature though it can also move on top of the hive. This expansion was released in early 2011 first on electronic versions of the game for iphone and on the hive website then as part of the hive carbon edition and finally as an expansion set for the 3rd edition bakelite set. A piece with a beetle on top of it is unable to move and for the purposes of the placing rules the stack takes on the color of the beetle.
